Early Life and Education
Whoopi Goldberg was born as Caryn Elaine Johnson on November 13, 1955, in New York City. Her parents were Robert James Johnson Jr. and Emma Johnson. Whoopi also has an older brother Clyde, with whom she grew up together in Chelsea-Elliot Houses.
Although, Goldberg’s mother is not alive at present, according to Goldberg she was a strong and wise woman. After Whoopi’s father abandoned their family, her mother involved herself in a variety of jobs to support her and her two kids.
Regarding her education, Goldberg went to a local Catholic School, St Columbia while she was young. Unfortunately, she had dyslexia: a disorder when an individual has trouble in reading despite normal intelligence and thus dropped out from high school Washington Irving High School while she was only 17 years of age.
