Met Gala or Met Ball, is an annual fundraising social event to benefit the Costume Institute of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York organized since 1948 at the opening of the annual fashion exhibition organized by the museum.
After often changing date, place and organization, the event has stabilized in its current form since 2005, which is why it is strictly held every first Monday in May in the Metropolitan Museum of Art organized by Vogue magazine, whose editor-in-chief Anna Wintour is also president or co-president of the Gala since 1995.
In addition to the various fashion weeks spread across various international cities, the Met Gala is widely regarded as the single most prestigious and glamorous fashion event in the world.
It can be attended by invitation only, usually addressed to celebrities from various professional spheres including fashion, cinema, television, music, theatre, business, sports, social media and politics, who receive a large return media coverage. Each year the event celebrates the specific theme of that year's Costume Institute exhibition, and guests are required to have a dress code in keeping with the theme of the exhibition.
