Nicole Kidman, born 1967, is an Australian actress, film producer and television producer with US citizenship. She received a total of five Oscar nominations, winning Best Actress for her role in The Hours; throughout her career she has also been awarded six Golden Globe Awards, a BAFTA Award, a Screen Actors Guild Awards, a Critics Choice Awards and two Emmy Awards.

Having been born to Australian parents in Hawaii, she has dual Australian and US citizenship. She is the founder and owner of the production company Blossom Films, she has been a goodwill ambassador for UNICEF since 1994 and for UNIFEM since 2006. In 2006 she was awarded the title Companion of the Order of Australia.

In November 1989 she joined the already established actor Tom Cruise in Tony Scott's Days of Thunder. The two fell in love and got married on December 24, 1990 in a ceremony in Telluride, Colorado, with a Scientological rite. The couple adopts 2 children, Isabella Jane and Connor Anthon. On August 9, 2001 they announced their separation. The two never wanted to reveal the real reasons for the divorce.

Kidman, in an interview released on September 5, 2007, revealed to the press that she had had 2 miscarriages during her marriage, one at the beginning and one in the last few months. One of her reasons seems to be religious in nature: Cruise passionately joined the Church of Scientology, while Kidman continued to remain linked to Catholicism and wanted baptism for her children, a position hindered by her husband. In January 2005, Kidman met country singer-songwriter Keith Urban: the two married in a Catholic ceremony in Sydney on 25 June 2006.
