His 1982 album Thriller is still the best-selling album in the history of music, with sales estimated at 100 million copies globally, 34 million of which in the United States alone, making it the best-selling studio album and most certified in the country. His other recording projects, including Off the Wall, Bad, Dangerous and HIStory are also listed among the best-selling albums in the world, while Blood on the Dance Floor is listed as the best-selling remix album in the world.

Jackson has also often made headlines for his private life, including his change in appearance, cosmetic surgery, his personal relationships and accusations of molestation, from which he was declared innocent in 2005, as well as for his its humanitarian initiatives such as the creation of charities to protect the rights of children and animals.

Michael Jackson died on June 25, 2009 at the age of 50 at his residence in Hombly Hills, Los Angeles, due to cardiac arrest due to acute propofol and benzodiazepine intoxication.
