Chris Rock was born in Andrews on February 7, 1965. He began his career in the eighties appearing in films with Eddie Murphy. In 2006 he regained success, when the successful series Everybody Hates Chris was broadcast, where he tells his life in a comic way.
His mother Rosalie was a teacher and social worker for the mentally challenged, while his father Julius was a truck driver and newspaper delivery boy. Shortly after his birth they moved to Crown Heights, Brooklyn, New York. Julius died in 1988 after surgery for an ulcer. His younger brothers Tony and Kenny are also in entertainment. His brother Charles died in 2006 due to alcoholism. Rock claims he was influenced by the style of his paternal grandfather, Allen Rock, a preacher.
Since 2000 he has also started working as a voice actor, while he was the presenter of the Academy Awards in 2005, 2016 and 2022.
During the evening of the 2022 Academy Awards, Rock presented the Oscar for best documentary and, before this award, received a slap from Will Smith, who took the stage after Rock made a joke about Jada Pinkett Smith, Smith's wife. Even after asking for a formal apology, the latter was punished and banned from the Oscar awards.
