Johnny Depp, in the nineties established himself as one of the biggest and most talented stars of his era, thanks to his partnership with director Tim Burton, for whom he starred in numerous cult films such as Edward Scissorhands, Ed Wood, Sleepy Hollow, and to other notable interpretations, such as in Cry Baby, Mr. Grape, Dead Man, Donnie Brasco.
Since the 2000s, he has alternated hugely successful films such as the Pirates of the Caribbean saga, other collaborations with Burton and the first two chapters of the Fantastic Beasts and where to find them series, with more dramatic roles, such as From Hell, Neverland, Public Enemies.
Over the course of his career, he has won a Golden Globe, out of ten total nominations, in the category of Best Actor in a Comedy or Musical for Sweeney Todd and has earned three Academy Award nominations for Best Actor.
He had a relationship with actress Amber Heard from 2012 to 2016, whom he met on the set of the film The Rum Diary. On February 3, 2015, the two were married in a civil ceremony in the actor's home in West Hollywood, Los Angeles, while the celebrations took place over the weekend, on the beach of Little Hall's Pond Cay, the island in the Bahamas owned by the actor.
In May 2016 however, after only 15 months of marriage, Heard filed for divorce from her Depp claiming she had suffered physical violence. The story was immediately controversial and the couple finalized the divorce proceedings in January 2017. In 2019 Johnny Depp in turn filed a complaint against his ex-wife, accusing her of adultery, defamation and domestic violence and asking for a total compensation of 50 million dollars.
The trial between the two ex-spouses, which enjoyed great media coverage, began on April 11, 2022 and then concluded on the following June 1 with the sentence formulated by the court of Fairfax, Virginia, which decreed Depp's victory and Heard being ordered to pay him $10.35 million in total.
