It is even more frequent when we are eating, and about three times an hour when we are sleeping. Our bodies don't even think about swallowing while we are in the middle of it, until we experience some sort of discomfort as a result of that simple action.

There is no doubt that swallowing is essential for life and that is why whenever we feel uncomfortable about scratching, when our throats are swollen, dry, and irritated, we are ready to try a multitude of methods just in order to ease our pain.

Sore Throats

Sore throats are a common health problem that can be caused by a number of different factors. As a temporary symptom, it often lasts for a few days and does not necessarily have to be the result of a disease.

Besides straining the throat muscles, it can also result from drinking cold drinks, breathing through the mouth (such as when snoring), breathing through dry air in the rooms in which you stay, smoking, inhaling air that is polluted by cigarette smoke, or even breathing air that is polluted by the sun.

The irritation of the throat can also occur with allergies if the backwall of the throat becomes swollen due to an increased flow of secretions. It is usually not very concerning if you have a sore throat, because even if you don't treat it at all, it will usually go away on its own within two to seven days, even if you do not take any medicines for it.

The pain should subside gradually within a few days, however if in addition to that you begin to have other symptoms such as an elevated body temperature, you should definitely consult your doctor if you do not notice that the pain is gradually subsiding within a few days.

During the winter months, a sore throat may be a sign of an acute sore throat, especially in those who are experiencing a sore throat. Depending on which part of the throat is affected, there are three types of throat infections: infection of the pharynx (pharyngitis), infection of the tonsils (tonsillitis), and infection of the larynx and vocal cords (laryngitis).

One of the most common reasons for a patient to see a family medicine doctor is because they have a sore throat.
