Career

Brooks Laich started his junior hockey career playing for the ‘Moose Jaw Warriors’ during the 2001-01 season of the Western Hockey League.

Laich has played 71 games for the Warriors. He was a dedicated student of Moose Jam and was awarded the Club’s Scholastic Player of the Year for the season for his excellent performance. During the 2001 NHL Entry draft, he was drafted by the Ottawa Senators.

Later he played for the Thunderbirds for the rest of the junior hockey career. Laich was titled to the WHL's Western Conference First All-Star Team and the Canadian Hockey League's Third All-Star Team. In 2003, Brooks played his first professional game for the ‘Birmingham Senators’ at the American Hockey League.

In February, he made his National Hockey League debut with Senators against the New Jersey Devils. During the season, Brooks was traded to the ‘Washington Capitals.’ In the same year, Brooks debuted with Canadian Team at 2003 World Junior Championships against Sweden and won a silver medal.

Then he reported to the Capitals’ AHL affiliate and played against the Chicago Blackhawks. He spent the entire 2004-05 season with the Pirates. During 2005-06 season, Laich played for both the Capitals and new AHL affiliate.

Brooks Laich played for the Capitals from 2006 to 2007. During the 2007-08 season, Brooks played a total of 82 games and also broke the record and set a new record of the highest goals and point in his entire career. Laich continued playing for the Washington Capitals.

Brooks Laich played second international games during the 2010 World Championships where Laich scored one goal in seven games. The Czech Republic won the tournament where Canada finished in the seventh position. The Washington Capitals participated in 2011 NFL Winter Classic during the 2010-11 season where the team played against Pittsburgh Penguins.

In the same year, he signed with The Capitals for the next six years. Before the start of the lockout-shortened 2012-12 season, Brooks played for the Kloten Flyers of Switzerland’ National League and played a total of 35 games.

Apart from hockey, Laich is also involved in charitable activities and supports charities related to multiple sclerosis and 'Athletes Against Autism.'
