Early Life
Carmelo Kyam Anthony was born on May 29, 1984, in Brooklyn, New York to Carmelo Iriarte and Mary.
He was the youngest of the four children. At age two, he lost his father who died due to liver failure. He was raised in Baltimore, Maryland. His mother alone raised him and his three siblings. After a few years, his family shifted to Baltimore where he grew up.

He studied at the Towson Catholica High school. During the summer of 1999, he gained a height of 5 inches which made him one of the top players of the area.
In 2001, he was named Baltimore Sun's metro player of the year. Throughout his school days, he was a successful basketball career as a junior.
