He was born on October 31, 1951, in Fairmont, West Virginia to May and Nick Lou Saban Sr. Nick Saban grew up in West Virginia itself in a small community of Monongah and went to Monongah High School which is about 25 miles southwest of Morgantown.

Previously, Nick served as head coach of the National Football League's Miami Dolphins and at three other different universities which are Louisiana State University, Michigan State University and the University of Toledo.
In his career as a college head, he holds the record of 232-63-1. In 2003, Nick Saban led Louisiana State University Tigers to the BCS National Championship and the Alabama Crimson Tide to BCS and AP national championship in 2009, 2011, 2012 and College Football Playoff championships in 2015 and 2017.
Nick Saban became the first coach in the football history to win a national championship with two different Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) schools since the inception of AP Pool in 1936. Then in 2013, Nick was inducted into Alabama Sports Hall of Fame.

His payroll rose up by around $800,000 after he signed a new contract with the University of Alabama in July 2018. Looking at the data of Forbes, in 2018, the University of Alabama made an income of $127 million and a profit of $59 million.
Nick signed a new contract extension on July 27, 2018, worth $74 million with Alabama Crimson Tide that extended the payroll and compensation of the football coach through 2025. In May 2017, Nick signed an 8-year old worth $65 million, that promised to pay him $4 million signing bonus and $400,000 contract year competition payment.
The newly signed contract offers an annual compensation of $7.5 million over previous $6.725 million. It also provides a $400,000 annual rise on salary every year and an $800,000 bonus contract-year completion payment through 2025.
According to the new contact, Nick will earn $8.3 million in 2018 season, that breaks down to a salary of $7.5 million and $800,000 for contract-year completion payment. Similarly, in the 2019 season, Nick will earn $8.7 million including an increased annual salary of the increased annual salary of $7.8 million and $800,000 contract-year bonus.
