Jon Bon Jovi is tuning his vocals once again for the spotlight after a crucial vocal cord surgery in June 2022. At 62, the iconic frontman of Bon Jovi shared his revitalized journey back to performing live in an exclusive interview with PEOPLE.

The revelation came during the celebration of Bon Jovi’s dedicated exhibit at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, marking a significant comeback not just for him but for the band as well. The surgery addressed persistent issues with his vocal cords, which had been affecting his signature sound since 2015.

Initially reluctant to seek medical intervention, a heartfelt conversation with his wife, Dorothea Bongiovi, during a 2022 tour pushed him to choose between retiring or undergoing surgery. Opting for the latter, the surgery successfully alleviated the problem, allowing him to pursue rigorous vocal training and daily exercises essential for his recovery.

Jon's recent performance in Nashville was a testament to his ongoing recovery, signaling a positive return to form. "We performed last night in Nashville, and everything was very good," he reported, adding, "So step by step, I'm getting back to it."

Jon Bon Jovi's Resilient Return

In his candid revelations in the new docuseries, Thank You, Goodnight: The Bon Jovi Story, streaming on Hulu, Jon delves deeper into his vocal challenges and the emotional toll they took.

His narrative is one of resilience, underscored by the support of fellow musicians like Shania Twain, who underwent a similar surgical procedure in 2018. Twain, whom Jon refers to as his "spirit sister," played a pivotal role in reassuring him through her own experiences.

Despite his progress, Jon remains cautious about his performance capabilities, stating, “I’m capable of singing. What I’m not necessarily capable of is two and a half hours a night, four nights a week,” yet he remains hopeful about fully regaining his endurance on stage.

The singer’s journey is not just about overcoming physical hurdles but also about reconnecting with his passion for live music and the fans that have stood by him. As Jon gradually reclaims his place on stage, his story serves as a profound narrative of overcoming adversity and the power of resilience in the face of career-threatening challenges.
