The Broadway landscape is buzzing with excitement as "Merrily We Roll Along," a revival of Stephen Sondheim's iconic musical, has announced an extension of its run. Featuring a star-studded cast including Daniel Radcliffe, Jonathan Groff, and Lindsay Mendez, the show has captured the hearts of theater-goers, extending its Broadway tenure by four months until July 7, 2024.

This remarkable extension is a testament to the musical's overwhelming success, as it has been performing to full houses at the Hudson Theatre since its opening on October 10. The anticipation for this extended run is palpable, with tickets for the new dates beyond March 24 set to go on sale this Friday at 10 a.m.

ET. This follows an exclusive presale for American Express cardholders which commenced on Tuesday morning, adding to the fervor surrounding the production. This extension marks the second time the musical, under the masterful direction of Olivier Award-winner Maria Friedman, has prolonged its Broadway stint.

The show's journey to Broadway, following a successful run at Off-Broadway's New York Theatre Workshop, has been nothing short of spectacular.

Decades of Drama

"Merrily We Roll Along" offers a compelling narrative spanning three decades in the entertainment industry.

It delves into the complex dynamics of the relationship between composer Franklin Shepard and his two lifelong friends, writer Mary and lyricist-playwright Charley. Renowned for its inventive storytelling and Stephen Sondheim's deeply personal and celebrated compositions, the musical stands as a cult classic, pushing the boundaries of traditional musical theater.

The production boasts a creative powerhouse, with George Furth's book complementing Sondheim's score, itself based on the original play by George S. Kaufman and Moss Hart. The show's artistic vision is further brought to life by a talented team including choreographer Tim Jackson, Tony Award-winning orchestrator Jonathan Tunick, and designers Soutra Gilmour (scenic and costume), Amith Chandrashaker (lighting), and Kai Harada (sound), among others.

Critical acclaim for this Broadway rendition has been unanimous. In a glowing review by TheWrap, critic Robert Hofler lauded the production, celebrating its successful execution of a notoriously challenging piece, describing it as "downright wonderful." This extension is not just a victory for the cast and crew but a celebration of Sondheim's enduring legacy and the continued vitality of Broadway.
