Billboard announced Shakira as Woman of the Year

During the Women Latinas in Music gala ceremony, Shakira will receive the award for "Billboard's Woman of the Year" for her contributions to the music industry. It is safe to say that Shakira marked the past year and this year in many ways, and most of you will be familiar with some of them as well.

There will be a music special held in Miami in a few weeks time. Performing arts company Billboard is showcasing Latin American artists and creative women in the music industry, highlighting women who contribute to positive changes and gender equality in music.

As part of the gala celebration, a special award will be given to many others. With the Spanish language debut of Shakira together with Ozuna, she broke several records for her debut album of the same name and crossed the path of many others this past year.

Shakira hit song

The hit song "Shakira: BZRP Music Sessions #53" by Shakira, which was originally released in Spanish, reached number nine on Billboard's Hot 100 list in January of this year, making Shakira the first woman to have achieved this feat with a song in Spanish.

As the most viewed Latin song on YouTube in 24 hours, "Sessions" has also broken 14 Guinness World Records, becoming the most viewed Latin song on Spotify in 24 hours, and the most viewed Latin song on Spotify with more than 63 million views, breaking 14 Guinness World Records as well.

"Shakira is the ultimate woman in music. It is because of her that Latin women from around the world are able to write and perform music that is deeply personal to them. As a woman who created the movement by herself, she is more relevant today than ever before, as a woman of grace and immense talent.

She is the definition of a woman in music" says Billboard's Latin/Espaol content director, Leila Cobo. She is the best-selling Latin artist of all time and one of the best-selling female artists of all time with more than 95 million records sold worldwide. As a crossover artist, she opened doors for other Latin artists to enter international markets.
