Announcing the New Album
In early January 2023, Miley Cyrus announced the release of her latest album and just a week later, she shared the lead single "Flowers." In a clip posted on her social media, Cyrus revealed that the album is divided into two parts, representing day and night.
She shared her thoughts on the creation of "Flowers," saying, "It was a time in my life where I was going through just a lot emotionally and personally. And I guess, all of my songs kind of evolve. They can start as something that was a trouble, like, it just feels like it’s an April shower, it never stops raining and then it started raining down love."
"Flowers": A Global Hit
The success of "Flowers" has been massive, spending six weeks at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and breaking a Spotify record with 100 million streams in a single week.
The song, which is allegedly about Cyrus' ex-husband Liam Hemsworth, was released on his birthday.
"River": The Second Single
"River" is the second single from "Endless Summer Vacation" and it's been described by Cyrus as a dance floor banger.
In a clip shared on her Instagram page, she explained, "Sometimes we just need a dance floor banger a.k.a. they don’t want me to talk about the fact the song is about [bleep]. It’s f***ing nasty."
Continuing her Musical Journey
Since her last album, "Plastic Hearts," which was released in 2020, Cyrus has continued to showcase her musical talents through cover songs, such as the Cocteau Twins' "Heaven or Las Vegas" and Metallica's “Nothing Else Matters” for “The Metallica Blacklist” collection.
In 2021, she performed "Plastic Hearts" and "Without You" on Saturday Night Live and also covered Dolly Parton's "Light of the Clear Blue Morning." Additionally, she ended 2022 as the host of her own New Year's special on NBC, which featured guests Dolly Parton and David Byrne.
