Former heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson has been accused of rape in a lawsuit filed in New York this month. The accuser, who wishes to remain anonymous, is seeking $5 million in damages and claims that Tyson raped her in a limousine after they met at a New York nightclub in the early 1990s.
She states that she has suffered "physical, psychological, and emotional trauma" as a result of the alleged attack. The lawsuit was filed under the Adult Survivors Act, which recently went into effect in New York and has opened the way for a flood of s*xual abuse suits, regardless of the age of the allegations.
The woman's statement did not give a specific date for the alleged attack, only stating that it occurred around the same time that Desiree Washington accused Tyson of rape in Indianapolis. In 1992, Tyson was convicted of rape and served three years in prison.
The lawyer representing the accuser stated that his office did not simply take the woman's word for it, but thoroughly investigated her allegations and found them to be "very credible." “I told him no several times and asked him to stop, but he continued to attack me,” the woman said in her affidavit. “He then pulled my pants off and violently raped me”.

Zoe Salzman, a specialist in harassment cases and a representative for a woman in New York's s*xual harassment probe of former Governor Andrew Cuomo, states that the new legislation is allowing individuals to finally hold their attackers accountable.
“People aren’t wasting time,” she said. “A lot of these cases involve people who came to us years ago looking for ways to hold their attackers accountable, but we had to tell them about the statute of limitations.
Now they’re calling us back”. “We are speaking with people who were there at the time, taking into consideration that many key individuals are deceased or into their 80s and 90s,”. The law office announced that it could not comment further on the case as it is still ongoing.
