The forthcoming action-crime thriller is "Sugar Bandits," featuring Oscar winner Will Smith, literally set to shred the global movie market. AGC Studios has lined up the multimillion-dollar distribution in multiple countries and is set to commence production in September.

The movie, which already has some buzz since the first announcement in it, is giving us Smith as the turned former Special Forces vigilante squad leader in Boston. "Bad Boys" franchise lead Will Smith will return to hard-nosed action when he plays the lead in "Sugar Bandits," portraying a squad put together to take down the narcotics industry.

The film, which quickly came together once Stefano Sollima agreed to direct, has already helped close a fistful of sales deals — some of which are expected to be announced here in Berlin after being negotiated at the European Film Market.

Global Distribution Secured

Important international contracts have been signed with multiple distributors. These include Leonine for Germany and Switzerland, SND for France, and the Leone Film Group in Italy. In Scandinavia, Nordisk Film will handle distribution, while Sun Distribution will manage the rights in Spain, South Africa, and Latin America.

Vertical Distribution has acquired the rights for several Eastern European countries, including Poland, Romania, and Hungary. Further agreements encompass a wide geographic range, from Selim Ramia & Co in the Middle East to Filmbridge in Mongolia.

Notably, Amazon Prime Video has entered into an eight-figure deal to stream "Sugar Bandits" in the UK, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, and additional territories. The movie's estimated budget of $80 million will be allocated to filming locations in Montreal and Boston.

"Sugar Bandits" is based on the novel "Devils In Exile" by Chuck Hogan, who also penned the screenplay. The film’s production team includes Smith and Jon Mone of Westbrook Studios, with Ryan Shimazaki supervising. AGC Studios' Stuart Ford, along with producers from 3 Arts Entertainment and executive producers Gina Gardini and Ludovico Purgatori, will also contribute to the film’s development.

Ford expressed confidence in the project, noting, "‘Sugar Bandits’ represents one of the strongest commercial projects to emerge in the international film market this year. The collaboration with Stefano and his team last week has significantly propelled the project, attracting top-tier distributors worldwide."
