While "The Nun II" saw a 55 percent dip from its chart-topping debut last week, it still remained the audience's top choice over Agatha Christie's Hercule Poirot in his latest cinematic mystery. The ninth film from The Conjuring universe garnered a whopping $14.7 million, according to Comscore.

This brings its domestic earnings to an impressive $56.5 million. Furthermore, its international earnings of $30.1 million over the weekend boosts its overseas total to $102.3 million, taking its global tally to a staggering $158.8 million.

Not far behind, "A Haunting in Venice" netted a domestic box office of $14.5 million. Despite this commendable figure, it lagged behind "The Nun II" in its international debut, raking in $22.7 million.

Branagh's Poirot Confronts the Unknown

Kenneth Branagh returns as the famous detective Poirot, doubling as the director, in this atmospheric thriller set in post-WWII Venice.

Joining him is a stellar ensemble including Michelle Yeoh, Tina Fey, and Jamie Dornan. The narrative revolves around a hesitant Poirot attending a séance in a dilapidated Venetian palace on Halloween night. Branagh remarked on his Poirot trilogy, “While 'Orient Express' tackled revenge and 'Death on the Nile' explored greed, this film delves deep into the supernatural, pushing Poirot and audiences to confront their beliefs in the unknown." In related box office news, "The Equalizer 3" remains robust, securing $7.2 million in its third week.

Its cumulative domestic earnings now stand at $73.7 million, with a global collection of $132.4 million. On the other hand, "My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3" witnessed a slide from third to fourth, amassing $4.7 million, taking its domestic total to $18.6 million and a global figure of $23.9 million.

Surprisingly, "Barbie" still captures the summer spirit, ranking fifth in the box office. It's gathered just under $4 million, which is noteworthy considering it's available for home rental and purchase. The film remains a cinematic behemoth, with a domestic haul of $626.1 million and an outstanding global total of $1.4 billion.

For those following Hollywood's latest offerings, these numbers provide a clear picture of the ongoing cinematic battles and which films have captured the audience's imagination.
