Ryan Gosling Uncovers the Impact of Margot Robbie's Pink Days on the Barbie Movie

In a recent exclusive interview with PEOPLE magazine, Ryan Gosling, the heartthrob star of numerous Hollywood blockbusters, divulged some delightful insights about the behind-the-scenes camaraderie that sprung up while filming the new Barbie movie.

One particular highlight of this peek behind the curtain? Weekly "Pink Days," courtesy of Margot Robbie, Gosling's co-star and producer on the project.

Dressing Up for Charity: The Origin of Pink Days

According to Gosling, Robbie introduced an unusual, yet colorful tradition on set. "Margot had this pink day once a week, where everyone had to wear something pink.

And if you didn’t, you were fined," he reveals. In a stroke of genius, Robbie managed to combine on-set fun with philanthropy. As Gosling tells it, she herself would go around collecting the fines, making sure to donate all collected proceeds to charity.

While the thought of a film set draped in shades of blush and bubblegum might bring a smile to our faces, the reaction from the crew members was more than just humorous acceptance. To Gosling's surprise, this weekly celebration became a beloved tradition, so much so that it stirred unexpected enthusiasm among an unlikely group — the male crew members.

A Show of Support: From Pink Day to Permanent Tribute

"What was really special was just how excited the male crew members were," Gosling recounts, painting a picture of the film set's vibrant atmosphere. As a testament to their enthusiasm and admiration for Robbie and the film's director Greta Gerwig, the crew went beyond merely observing the pink dress code.

"At the end of the film, they all got together and, with their own money, made pink crew shirts with rainbow fringe," Gosling shares. Drawing a comparison to a poignant scene from the movie Dead Poets Society, Gosling likens the crew's actions to a salute of respect.

He declares, "It was this opportunity for them to show their respect and admiration for what Margot and Greta were creating."

A Dynamic Duo: Robbie's Admiration for Gosling

Not to be outdone by Gosling's praises, Robbie reciprocates with her own high praises for her co-star. "Ryan is the most comedically gifted actor I have ever worked with," she affirms in PEOPLE's new Barbie special issue, showing a side of Gosling that isn't often seen in his more dramatic roles.

She adds, "He’s known for his dramatic acting, and rightly so. But he is unbelievably gifted with comedy, and I ruined most of his takes because I was laughing through all of it." From pink-themed days to fond interplay between actors, it's clear the Barbie film set was a hive of unique, exciting, and heartwarming moments.
