According to reports from Deadline, the Spider-Man spinoff is still in development but encountered significant scheduling challenges. The ongoing Writers Guild of America (WGA) strike, coupled with complications surrounding Bad Bunny's touring commitments, contributed to the difficulties in finalizing a suitable release window for the film.
For those unfamiliar, Bad Bunny, whose real name is Benito Antonio Martinez Ocasio, is a multi-talented Puerto Rican artist known for his musical prowess, production skills, acting, and even professional wrestling. In April 2022, Bad Bunny joined the 'El Muerto project, becoming Marvel's first live-action Latino lead.
However, as of April 2023, production had yet to commence, leaving the film's future uncertain. Based on the comic book character with the same name, El Muerto (whose alter ego is Juan-Carlos Estrada Sánchez) is portrayed as the son of a luchador, discovering his destiny to inherit a mystical wrestling mask that grants him extraordinary abilities.
Equipped with superhuman strength and endurance, El Muerto embarks on a path to challenge both gods and men as a professional wrestler. Interestingly, 'El Muerto' is not the only film affected by Sony's calendar adjustments.
'Dumb Money,' a movie centered around the GameStop stock phenomenon and starring Paul Dano, will now hit theaters on September 22, 2023. In 'El Muerto's' vacated January slot, moviegoers can now anticipate the release of Jeymes Samuel's 'The Book of Clarence.'
