Tom Holland on the character he played and his mental health issues

In an interview with the media, Tom Holland confirmed that he has been sober for a year. Holland portrays the character of Danny Sullivan in the Apple TV+ show “The Crowded Room”. Talking with psychiatrists about the character he portrays helped him learn some things about his mental health at the same time.

“Learning about mental health and the power of it, and speaking to psychiatrists about Danny’s struggles, has been something that has been so informative to my own life,” he said, as quoted by pagesix.com Holland seems to have never delved so deeply into the character he portrays and has learned many things.

“I’m no stranger to the physical aspects of the job doing the whole action movie thing,” he said. “But the mental aspect, it really beat me up, and it took a long time for me to recover afterward, to sort of get back to reality”.

Holland saw a lot of himself in the character he portrays. The matter had gone so far that he began to fear for himself. At one point, he was even ready to shave his head. “I was seeing myself in him, but in my personal life, I remember having a bit of a meltdown at home and thinking, like, ‘I’m going to shave my head.

I need to shave my head, because I need to get rid of this character,'” Holland said. “And, obviously, we were mid-shooting, so I decided not to. It was unlike anything I’ve ever experienced before”. The popular actor hopes that people will eventually understand how important mental health is.

Education related to this should be a priority in today's society, which has more and more problems with mental health. “I hope that people will feel educated about the powers of mental health, the struggles, [and] our incredible abilities to survive,” he added.
