The veteran actor Sylvester Stallone, who has been in the film industry for over five decades, recently confessed that not all of his films have been box-office hits. In fact, the legendary Rocky star referred to one of his films as "maybe one of the worst films in the entire solar system" in a 2006 interview.
A Foray into Adult Films
Stallone's journey in the film industry has not always been smooth. He previously revealed that he acted in an adult film in his early days, a fact that he is not particularly proud of. Stallone was struggling to make a name for himself in the film industry and was even homeless for a brief period after moving to New York City.
He was sleeping in a bus station for three weeks when he saw an advertisement for the softcore film "The Party at Kitty and Stud's" and decided to audition out of desperation. In an interview with Playboy, Stallone candidly confessed, "I was at the end – the very end – of my rope.
I had to either make that movie or rob someone." Fortunately, Stallone was paid $200 for his role in the 1970 film, which helped him get back on his feet.
The Worst Film of His Career
However, there is another film that Stallone regrets even more.
The 76-year-old actor admitted that he hated the script for the 1992 comedy "Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot" and was only lured into the role after hearing that his rival Arnold Schwarzenegger was interested in it. The film, which follows Stallone as police sergeant Joe Bomowski, was a critical failure and is considered by Stallone to be the worst film he has ever made.
In a 2006 interview, Stallone bitterly stated, "The worst film I’ve ever made by far… maybe one of the worst films in the entire solar system, including alien productions we’ve never seen… a flatworm could write a better script than Stop!
Or My Mom Will Shoot."
Schwarzenegger's Role in Stallone's Regret
Schwarzenegger later admitted to playing a prank on Stallone by leaking that he was interested in the film. The former Governor of California said, "I read the script.
It was so bad. You know, I’ve also done some movies that went right in the toilet, right? That were bad. But this was really bad. So I went in. I said to myself, ‘I’m going to leak out that I have tremendous interest.'
I know the way it works in Hollywood. I would then ask for a lot of money. So then they’d say, ‘Let’s go give it to Sly. Maybe we can get him for cheaper.' " Despite earning over $70 million for his role in "Stop!
Or My Mom Will Shoot," Stallone still deeply regrets appearing in the film. He even joked that the film had the power to reduce birth rates, saying, "In some countries – China, I believe – showing Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot, once a week on national television, dropped the birth rate to zero. If they showed it twice a week, I believe that in twenty years China would be extinct."
