"Obsession": Netflix's Latest Controversial Mini-Series

Netflix's latest mini-series "Obsession" has garnered a lot of attention since its release on April 13. The show, directed by Glenn Leyburn and Lisa Barros D'Sa, is based on Josephine Hart's 1991 novel "Damage" and features a cast of accomplished actors including Richard Armitage, Charlie Murphy, Indira Varma, Rish Shah, Pippa Bennett-Warner, and Sonera Angel.

However, it's the steamy sex scenes that have caught the most attention, leading Netflix to post a humorous "warning" on its Twitter profile.

Explicit Content Sparks Controversy

The series is rated 18+, but its graphic content has still sparked controversy among some viewers.

In response, Netflix posted the tweet "Warning: this might be a bit much for 9am." Despite the criticism, the series has been well-received by many and has inspired a range of reactions on social media, from cringes to appreciation.

Charlie Murphy's Bruising Experience

One aspect of the series that has garnered particular attention is the difficulty Charlie Murphy faced while filming the sex scenes.

The actress, who has previously starred in "Peaky Blinders" and "Happy Valley", revealed that she was left "covered in bruises" after filming the explicit scenes with her co-star Richard Armitage. In an interview with Josh Smith on the Reign podcast, Charlie explained that the hardwood floor of the set caused her bruises, which appeared all over her body, including her toes.

Despite the difficulties, Charlie found the experience to be "empowering". She explained that the atmosphere on set was one of consent and boundaries, and that the touch map of her body was used to ensure she was comfortable with the physical contact during the scenes.

Audience Reactions

The four-part mini-series has certainly left its mark on viewers, with some cringing at a solo sex scene involving Richard's character William and a hotel room pillow. One viewer wrote, "I will never look at another hotel pillow the same after Obsession on @Netflix," while another added, "Me be taking my own pillows from home every time I go to a hotel now...least I know where they've been.

#ObsessionNetflix." However, not all reactions have been negative, with one viewer declaring, "This TV show I’m watching on Netflix wild asf but must watch #ObsessionNetflix."
