Barbie Ferreira, the talented young actress and plus-size model, recently opened up about her departure from the critically acclaimed series "Euphoria." In a recent appearance on the "Armchair Expert" podcast, Ferreira shed light on the reasons behind her exit and quashed rumors of a feud with the show's producer, Sam Levinson.
The Fat Friend Stereotype
"I don't want to play the fat best friend," Ferreira stated during the podcast. "I don't think there was a place for [Kat] to go. I think there were places she could have gone, but I don't think it would have fit into the show.
I don't know if it was going to do her justice, and I think both parties knew that." Ferreira's character, Kate, was a teenage girl struggling with her status among her peers, who created an alter ego as a girl who earns money by being filmed at the request of clients.
Despite the character's popularity and the show's numerous awards, Ferreira felt that her role was limited and lacked progression.
No Feud With Sam Levinson
Ferreira also addressed rumors of a feud with Levinson, stating, "I actually did not walk off set.
I did sprain my ankle once and had to go get an X-ray. Maybe that's what they mean?" She went on to say that Levinson writes for things he relates to and that she felt she and Levinson had a mutual understanding that the character of Kate was not going to fit into the show.
Moving Forward
"It really has been a good thing," Ferreira stated about her departure from the show. Considering the long-term shooting schedule of "Euphoria," Ferreira wants to pursue other projects, especially if her character was going to be placed in secondary roles in the third season.
The third season of "Euphoria" is expected to begin filming later this year, with a possible HBO premiere early next year. Meanwhile, Ferreira continues to blaze her own trail and make her mark in the entertainment industry.
