As the Kingdom prepares for the coronation of its King, Ian Fleming Publications has commissioned British writer and actor Charlie Higson to pen a new James Bond story to celebrate the historic event. The 64-year-old author, best known for his five books in the "Young Bond" series, is set to bring the iconic spy into the present day with his latest literary endeavor, "On His Majesty's Secret Service".
Celebrating 60 Years of Ian Fleming's Legacy
The new 007 story is scheduled to be published on May 4, ahead of the King's coronation on May 6, and marks 60 years since the publication of Ian Fleming's tenth novel, "On Her Majesty's Service", in 1963.
The book will see Bond tasked with preventing the eccentric Athelstan of Wessex from disrupting the coronation ceremony at the last minute, with the action taking place two days before the event.
A Thrilling Adventure for the Modern Age
Higson, who has long been a fan of the Bond franchise, couldn't contain his excitement when approached by Ian Fleming Publications with the opportunity to write an adult Bond story.
He said, "When Ian Fleming Publications came to me with the idea of writing an adult Bond story a little more than a month ago I was thrilled – until I realized it had to be ready for the coronation in May. Getting it written and turned around in such a short space of time was going to be as tense and heart-pounding as any Bond mission." "But I’ve been thinking about writing an adult Bond adventure ever since working on the Young Bond books, and he came bursting out of me with both fists flying.
It was all I could do to keep up with him and get his story down on paper," Higson added. "Fleming famously wrote fast, and I channeled that energy. And now it’s so exciting for me to finally enter the world of grown-up Bond." In "On His Majesty's Secret Service", readers can expect everything they love about a Bond story, with Higson promising, "Everything you want from a Bond story is in there – sex, violence, cars, a colorful villain with a nasty henchman, and of course, Bond himself, so well-known and yet so unknowable." With the Kingdom on the brink of a new era, "On His Majesty's Secret Service" promises to be a thrilling adventure for the modern age.
