Marvel Studios' next TV special for Disney+ could center on the character of Mephisto, who could be played, according to increasingly insistent rumors, played by Sacha Baron Cohen. The actor had already been indicated some time ago by Deadline as the interpreter of Mephisto in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The character should have made his debut in the TV series Ironheart, a spin-off of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, or perhaps in Agatha: Coven of Chaos, a sequel instead of WandaVision. According to Jeff Sneider of Above the Line, instead Marvel Studios would be shooting a special on Mephisto these days, right on the set of the TV series dedicated to Agatha Harkness.

The news was confirmed by Deadline, which cited an anonymous source close to the production. Cohen had also reportedly been spotted in the Pinewood Studios area typically reserved for Marvel Studios productions. It would be Marvel Studios' third TV special for Disney+, following Werewolf by Night and the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special.

The one on Mephisto could at this point arrive as early as 2023, perhaps as a Halloween television special. Mephisto was created in 1968 by screenwriter Stan Lee and artist John Buscema as the antagonist of the Silver Surfer.

Based on the mythological Mephistopheles he is the overlord of Hell in the Marvel universe. Over the decades he has dealt in one way or another with all the major Marvel superheroes, especially Thor, Ghost Rider, the Avengers and Spider-Man.

Mephisto is perhaps the most powerful and ruthless super-villain in the Marvel Universe. Its creators, in making it, were freely inspired by Mephistopheles, the incarnation of the devil in the legend of Doctor Faust. He is the supreme lord of Hell, whose purpose is to deceive mortals of all universes, proposing pacts to them.

Mephisto will grant their every wish in exchange for their soul, which will join the other damned souls of his kingdom. Mephisto's realm is sometimes referred to as Hell or Hades, not to be confused with Pluto's Greek Hades.

He is invulnerable to physical attacks and possesses nearly infinite magical powers, as evidenced by the fact that the Silver Surfer's most powerful blows barely scratch him, but on the contrary he is very vulnerable to his cosmic orbs.

He is also capable of altering the structure of time, reality and space itself. Above all, she is the nemesis of the Silver Surfer, whom she torments constantly in the hope of taking possession of his purest soul. In the classic epic he even resurrects the Flying Dutchman and inspires Surfer to battle S.H.I.E.L.D..
