Sadly, misfortune doesn't come alone in this case, and she has now announced that she is no longer covered for medical expenses by her union because she earned less than $26,470 during the past year, which is the minimum income in order to qualify for health insurance, as stated by SAG-AFRTA.
Shannen Doherty's statement
"I've been working since I was ten years old and I regularly pay membership fees to the union, and when I can no longer record due to illness, no one cares about me. I think we can and must do better,"- Doherty said.
She is calling upon her colleague, Fran Drescher, the president of the association, to come up with a plan to address the problem. As a matter of fact, in addition to Fran Drescher being elected to this position, she herself successfully defeated uterine cancer.
"The right to health insurance must not be linked to the level of income in the last year, because in this way we are all doomed to be left without the right to treatment in the fight against a long and serious illness,"-added 51-year-old Doherty.
