On March 15, the popular streaming platform Netflix will premiere a new documentary that delves into the world of Pornhub, one of the most visited websites in the world. The film, titled "Money Shot: The Pornhub Story," chronicles the scandals and controversies surrounding the site, including accusations of exploitation, censorship, and s*x trafficking.

The Film's Objective

According to Netflix, "Money Shot: The Pornhub Story" is a comprehensive examination of the adult-content site and its impact on the world of s*x work. The film features interviews with s*x workers, activists, and former employees of the site, exploring the history of the platform and the moral dilemmas associated with user-uploaded pornography.

"In 2020, The New York Times published an opinion piece that included the stories of multiple women who, as minors, were exploited by having their s*xual assaults posted to Pornhub, one of the most popular adult-content sites on the planet.

The article went viral. Since then, the company has faced lawsuits from assault victims and from activists who allege the site engages in child s*x trafficking. But for s*x workers, Pornhub has provided a sustainable way to make a living — a livelihood that’s being threatened by what they contend is blanket censorship.

Money Shot: The Pornhub Story, from Totally Under Control director Suzanne Hillinger, explores the history of the explicit-video platform and delves into the moral contradictions involved in user-uploaded pornography.," stated Netflix.

Pornhub's Rise to Fame and Controversies

Pornhub rose to fame by disrupting the adult industry's business model and fundamentally changing the distribution and production of pornography. However, as the site became increasingly popular, it also became the subject of increased scrutiny.

Accusations of s*x trafficking from the National Center on S*xual Exploitation and a lack of justice for victims of s*x abuse and revenge porn led to a public outcry for the site to be shut down. According to Netflix, "Money Shot: The Pornhub Story" interviews industry experts and employees of the site to explore the company's rise to fame and the controversies that resulted in a public outcry for the site to be shut down.

The film also examines the impact of the company's attempt to quell the backlash and the consequences of a censorious congressional act that has made companies more liable for their content.

Critics and Supporters

Although the film has not yet been released, it has already received criticism from some Netflix users who believe that Pornhub is responsible for knowingly making money from the s*x trade.

However, there are also those who believe that people in the industry were fighting for their existence at the same time as a new wave of censorship threatened their livelihoods. The film was directed by Suzanne Hillinger and produced by Jigsaw Productions and Nicki Carrico, with Stacey serving as executive producer and Erin Edeiken as supervising producer. "Money Shot" was edited by Alexis Johnson and composed by Kyle Scott Wilson.
