In 2022, the highly-anticipated film "Top Gun: Maverick" was finally released to the public, and it did not disappoint. The film, a sequel to the 1986 classic, quickly became a box office success, earning over $1 billion and securing its place as the second-most successful film of the year.

Additionally, it is now ranked as the twelfth-highest-grossing film of all time. At the helm of the film was none other than Tom Cruise, reprising his role as Pete "Maverick" Mitchel. Joining him was Val Kilmer, who reprised his role as Tom "Iceman" Kazansky.

The reunion between Cruise and Kilmer was a heartwarming moment for both actors, and Cruise recently appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live to discuss their emotional reunion.

An Emotional Reunion with Val Kilmer

Cruise, who has known Kilmer for decades, had this to say about their reunion on set: "It was pretty emotional.

For him to come back and play that character... he's such a powerful actor, that he instantly became Iceman again. I was crying, I got emotional. He's such a brilliant actor, and I love his work." The film's impact extended beyond the screen, influencing another popular project in the process.

The Disney+ series "Willow" was inspired by the success of "Top Gun: Maverick." Showrunner Jonathan Kasdan spoke about the film's impact on the series in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.

Influencing the Future of "Willow

Kasdan said, "Not only did [Top Gun: Maverick] give us food for thought, but my executive producer, Tommy Harper, was the executive producer of Top Gun: Maverick, so he worked with Val then.

We've been talking pretty consistently every day of our lives about how to bring Madmartigan back and how that character can continue to live within the Willow universe. And much of the first season asks the question of what happened to Madmartigan.

When it became clear that we weren't going to get [Kilmer] out there because of Covid restrictions, we simply pushed the question a little further down the road and continued to build it out in ways that we thought were tantalizing and fun." "Top Gun: Maverick" was a triumph both on and off screen.

Its success has left a lasting impact in the world of cinema and beyond, inspiring new projects and reigniting old ones.
