The trailer for the long-awaited Netflix documentary series about Britain's Prince Harry and his wife Meghan was released today. “When the stakes are this high doesn’t it make more sense to hear our stories from us?” Meghan says in the trailer.
Harry is seen saying: "No one sees what’s happening behind closed doors…I had to do everything I could to protect my family." Harry and Meghan stepped down from royal duties two years ago and moved to California where they have issued harsh criticism of the monarchy, including accusations of racism, which has led to a rift with the rest of the family, particularly his father King Charles and older brother.
The last time Harry and Meghan spoke openly about their relationship with other members of the royal family were in an interview with Oprah Winfrey in March 2021, the royals will once again fear new revelations.
The timing of the trailer and documentary could hardly be better for Netflix, with William and his wife Kate currently in Boston and Buckingham Palace dealing with the controversy surrounding William's godfather. The trailer “Harry & Meghan.
Netflix Global Event,” features never-before-seen black-and-white images of the royal couple, as well as one of them at an official event with William and Kate, all four looking downcast. In the end, Harry is shown throwing his head back as Meghan wipes away tears.
A spokesperson said the show "explores the clandestine days of their early courtship and the challenges that led to them feeling forced to step back from their full-time roles in the institution." Although no official release date has been given for the documentary, the media is speculating that it will be released on December 8.
Netflix said the series will "share the other side of their love story" and explore "the challenges that led to them feeling forced to step back from their full-time roles in the kingdom".
