Grey's Anatomy's Ellen Pompeo bids an emotional farewell

American actress Ellen Pompeo, who became famous for her role as Meredith Gray in the series "Grey's Anatomy", decided to say goodbye to this project after 19 long seasons of filming, and on that occasion she also sent an emotional message to her fans.

The series with the original name "Grey's Anatomy", which has been airing for years, will return in the new installments without the main and much-loved character - doctor Meredith Grey. Ellen Pompeo, who played Meredith, announced earlier that her role in the series could end, and now she said goodbye to her fans with an emotional post on Instagram.

“I am eternally grateful and humbled by the love and support you have all shown me, Meredith GREY and the show for 19 seasons,” the star wrote. “Through it all….none of it …would have been possible without the best fans in the world.

You all are RIDERS and you all have made the ride so fun and ICONIC!!” Pompeo wrote.

In her announcement, she pointed out that this is not the end of her appearance in the series, and that her character definitely intends to appear again in some episodes.

“I love you madly and appreciate you right back,” Pompeo added in her post this week. “This isn’t your first time on the rollercoaster… you know the show must go on and I’ll definitely be back to visit”.

In the comments below the post, numerous fans of the actress, as well as colleagues from the series, including actress Kate Walsh, responded. Many wished Pompeo good luck, but also wrote that the absence of her character will make it pointless for them to watch further episodes of the series.

The fact that Pompeo could soon leave the series was hinted in the promo trailer for the continuation of the episodes scheduled for February 2023. It was shown how Meredith is considering leaving Seattle, where she started a family and built a career, and continue her life in Boston.

In the fall, the finale of the series, which has currently reached its 19th season, brought another painful turn for the characters, as well as the viewers. Namely, Meredith's past and cherished memories disappear in flames, when her mother's house - at the same time one of the main locations during all seasons - is damaged in a fire.

Last year in August, Pompeo also revealed that she might end her acting career after "Grey's Anatomy" ends, saying that she is no longer so excited about new roles and acting. The actress is one of the richest in the world, and data from 2019 revealed that she earned up to 22 million dollars a year for the role she has now decided to say goodbye to.
