Queens of the Stone Age frontman and guitarist Josh Homme is heading back to America for emergency surgery, forcing his band the cancel eight European tour dates this month. The band, perhaps best known for the songs "No One Knows" and "Go With the Flow," took to social media on Saturday with news of their decision following ample efforts preparing themselves up until recently that they could proceed.

Queens expressed their regret in a statement: "The Queens are gutted that we cannot perform for you.

We apologize for any inconvenience and frustration you have had with us." It may sound alarming, but the sudden shift seems a response to how dire Homme's condition is - which he teased back in June 2023 during an interview with Revolver magazine that some of his listeners would be able to read between the lines and see through.

Homme the only consistent member of the band since its establishment in 1996 and also a founding figure within rock music. In 1998, he co-founded Eagles of Death Metal in addition to his duties with Queens and is very proficient at drumming.

Music as Therapy

Homme spoke openly of music being an expression that had been a way for him to release his feelings in this frank discussion with Revolver about the health issues he faced. "Look - I have nothing against therapy," he clarified.

I don't even go because I mess [music] around instead. I have done so much therapy over the past couple years, but at the end of it all, I know where to go with my religion — music. The release of the new album "In Times New Roman" recently illustrated how devoted they were to their fans and songs...

Their eighth studio album was released in June 2023. However, Queens of the Stone Age are still planning to get back on the road hot and heavy with a string of tour dates beginning in August, according to their website. It is quite true to the chaotic landscape of life for a touring musician, and such contingencies might well hasten their career demise: the (big) van loses wheel bearings near Kingman, thus reminding us who it really is we are supposed to be at war against.
