Taylor Wily, the actor who is famous for his appearances in Hawaii Five-0 and Forgetting Sarah Marshall, has died at 56. KITV, a local Hawaii news station, informed the public of the death of the beloved actor who used to be a sumo wrestler.

A family friend who is an anchor with the station said that Taylor passed on on Thursday. There is no information about the cause of death.

Television producer Peter M. Lenkov, who had the opportunity to work with Wily on the show “Hawaii Five-0,” also expressed his loss on Instagram. Lenkov shared an emotional message with a photograph showing the two off-camera.

He mourned and said that he would possibly reveal more information in the future, but at the moment, he is too emotional to talk about losing his buddy.

From Sumo to Screen

Taylor Wily, whose birth name was Teila Tuli, entered the sumo world in the late 1980s.

He was one among the few who made it to Japan’s prestigious sport of sumo wresting with an impressive record of 57 wins in 68 bouts, 27 losses and 14 draws in two years. Apart from sumo wrestling, Wily had a short stint in MMA in which he featured in the first UFC event and he became the first person to be defeated.

Wily began acting mid-2000s and got his big-screen debut as Kemo in the comedy film ‘Forgetting Sarah Marshall’ featuring Jason Segel. This role led to his most famous portrayal as Kamekona Tupuola, a criminal informant in the television series Hawaii Five-0; Wily appeared in 171 episodes, and the character became a cult favourite.

He also returned to the character in episodes of MacGyver and Magnum P. I. crossovers. Taylor Wily leaves behind his wife Halona and their two children. His death is a major blow to the entertainment world and fans all over the world who enjoyed his wonderful performances and personality.

He will be best remembered for the versatility of his career and how he entertained everyone who watched him. Taylor Wily was 56 years old.
