As Donald Trump marked his 78th birthday on Friday, "Tonight Show" host Jimmy Fallon seized the opportunity to gift the former president a slice of humor - albeit, the variety Trump might rather not digest. The late-night comedian used his platform to deliver a series of sharp-tongued jokes, pointing to Trump's recent legal woes and the ironies of celebrating amid such circumstances.

In his typical comedic flair, Fallon quipped about the birthday preparations at Mar-a-Lago, Trump's famed resort and residence. "Down at Mar-a-Lago, they’re planning a big party with candy ankle monitors and a bouncy jail house," Fallon joked during Thursday's broadcast.

The imagery of a festivity laced with legal motifs set the tone for an evening where humor is shadowed over serious undertones.

Counting Guilty, Not Candles

The jokes didn’t stop at party favors. Fallon continued, delving deeper into the legal troubles that have recently ensnared Trump.

“Trump’s birthday should be fun. The last time people gathered to say ‘Are you 1, are you 2, are you 3,’ they were counting guilty verdicts," he said. This reference to the outcomes of Trump's hush money trial - where the former president was convicted on 34 counts - underscored a bizarre juxtaposition of personal celebration and public accountability.

Fallon's routine took a further twist when he imagined Trump's interaction with Mar-a-Lago's chef about his birthday cake. “Apparently when the chef asked what kind of cake he wanted, Trump said ‘The kind with the file baked into it,’” Fallon delivered, mimicking Trump's voice, complete with a winking nod to classic prison break films.

This punchline not only highlighted the severity of Trump's legal predicaments but also showcased Fallon's ability to weave topicality with humor seamlessly.
