At a recent Tribeca Film Festival panel, Kieran Culkin, now 41, humorously admitted to being clueless about the plot of the iconic 1990 film, "Home Alone," despite being part of the cast as a child. The "Succession" star's revelation occurred during a discussion with Jesse Eisenberg on June 13 at New York's Indeed Theater at Spring Studios.

Kieran, who portrayed Kevin McCallister's cousin Fuller in the film, shared that at just 7 years old, he was entirely unaware that his brother, Macaulay Culkin, was the lead, despite Macaulay's role as the central character, Kevin.

"I saw it at the premiere and I was dying laughing. I was like, ‘Well, I guess that makes sense. Mac was on set a lot. I guess he’s the lead of this movie,'" Kieran recounted with a laugh. The actor amusingly noted that his misinterpretation stemmed from a misunderstanding during filming.

He initially believed the film centered around a minor character, the next-door neighbor kid, due to a prank from Devin Ratray, who played Buzz. "That kid worked one day and I thought the whole movie must be about him," Kieran explained.

Kieran's Holiday Tradition

Kieran's story highlighted the unique perspectives children can have on film sets. Despite his early confusion, Kieran has since become very familiar with "Home Alone," watching it repeatedly over the years, especially during the Christmas season.

"I have seen that movie so many times. I grew up watching it over and over again on Christmas so I got that whole thing memorized," he stated. Reflecting on his family's experience with fame following the film's success, Kieran shared insights from a March interview with Esquire.

He described the overwhelming attention his brother received as "uncomfortable" and something that led him to have an "unhealthy relationship with what I did for a living." Initially, Kieran did not aspire to achieve significant success in his career due to these early experiences.

However, with an Emmy now under his belt and a successful tenure on "Succession," Kieran has reconciled with his past experiences and now fully appreciates the film that once baffled him as a child. His lighthearted retelling at the Tribeca panel not only entertained the audience but also provided a personal glimpse into the challenges and humorous moments actors can experience behind the scenes.
