She had to take last season off to receive treatment for stage three breast cancer. She will now, however, be returning to compete on "Strictly Come Dancing." Following the official announcement from the BBC, the 33-year-old Welsh dancer took to Instagram to reveal she was "over the moon" to participate in the upcoming season.

"My heart is so happy," Dowden wrote on social media. "The best team on and off the dance floor. I feel blessed and more excited than ever. Bring it on!" In this year's competition, professional dancer Vito Coppola was simply one of many who delighted in the return of Dowden and gave her a huge welcome.

He penned, "Beautiful Amy, we are so happy to have you back. We have missed you. Be ready because I will lift you very high." "We love you, and I'm sure I can speak for us all when I say it was not the same without you.

Dowden's Comeback Celebrated

Dowden's colleague and friend, Diane Buswell, said she was delighted to have Dowden back where she "belongs.

She was diagnosed with stage three aggressive breast cancer in May 2023 after finding a lump in her breast just before her honeymoon in the Maldives with fellow dancer Ben Jones. Over nine months, she underwent treatment, which included a mastectomy, chemotherapy, and fertility treatment.

In February, she received hopeful news that she was "disease-free." Indeed, throughout her treatment, Dowden also posted candidly about her health on social media, even turning up on surprise appearances on Strictly to read out the voting terms and conditions to the shock of fans and fellow co-stars.

Her honesty was said to raise awareness of the symptoms of breast cancer. While the return of Dowden will be much celebrated, the new season will miss Giovanni Pernice, who was conspicuously absent from the lineup announcement.

Pernice, who first appeared on the show in 2015, has had several allegations leveled against his teaching style. The claims were then exacerbated when Amanda Abbington, his ex-dance partner, branded Pernice as "awful" and mentioned "personal reasons" for having to withdraw from the show in 2023.

Shirley Ballas, Motsi Mabuse, Craig Revel-Horwood, and Anton Du Beke are heading up the 20th-anniversary celebrations of "Strictly Come Dancing.".
