Beyoncé and Miley Cyrus have taken their friendship to new heights with a surprising musical collaboration that has fans buzzing. Earlier this year, Beyoncé released her album "Cowboy Carter," featuring a surprise duet with Miley Cyrus on the track "II Most Wanted." The announcement sent the Bey Hive into a tailspin, partly because both had kept the collaboration a secret since they came out for this year's GRAMMY Awards because they didn't even look at each other.

In a revelatory profile for W magazine, 31-year-old Miley Cyrus shared how her friendship with Beyoncé wasn't something expected—well, at least at first—as they forged a relationship over their powerhouse mothers.

Miley reminisced about their first performance at the 2008 Stand Up to Cancer benefit. 'I was 14, sandwiched between Beyoncé and Rihanna, towering in heels. They were these powerful, fully realized women, and I'm pretty sure I had braces,' she recalled.

'They were protective of me. After that victorious performance, Beyoncé gifted her new friend Miley a House of Deréon jacket for Christmas, encrusted in gold studs with her name spelled out in full, followed by a pair of custom jeans to match, confirming the friendship that so many of us had seen coming.

They stayed in contact and texted each other all the time, comparing notes on their mothers, who had themselves become friends. "We talk a lot about our moms," Miley said. "Like her mom, Ms. Tina, my mom is also an M.T.: Mama Tish.

Ms. Tina is like a mother to Beyoncé's fans, just as my mom is to mine."

Miley talked up the critical role their moms played in their careers with: "My mom was everything—makeup, hair, seamstress, styling, tour manager.

The word 'mother' is so all-encompassing," she said. "Our fans even call us 'mother' because of that influence." Miley also jumped into the making of their duet on "II Most Wanted." She said, "I wrote that song about two and a half years ago, and my mom loved it.

Though Beyoncé reached out to me, the first song I thought of to do with her was this one. It captures our roots—her from Texas, me from Tennessee. I told her, 'We don't have to get country; we are country.' " Working together on a song with Beyoncé was an actual dream-come-true moment for Miley; she added, "Not only singing with Queen Bey but writing a song for her was incredible.".

"It's pretty amazing to think she's only 31 and how much she's done. She is an amazing human and makes me the proudest mama in the world," Miley's mom, Tish Cyrus, told ET at the Grammys in February. The singer's sister, Brandi Cyrus, had been equally excited to discuss the collaboration in an April interview with ET.

"I'm just so proud of her. Fans have been sharing old videos of Miley admiring Beyoncé, and now, to work with her idol is a huge deal for her," Brandi remarked. This collaboration between Beyoncé and Miley Cyrus simply proves to their fans the truth of kinship and alliance in the world of music.
