Ryan Phillippe has recently pulled out of the nostalgia archives in celebration of his former sartorial synergy with ex-wife Reese Witherspoon. The actor posted a cute throwback photo on his Instagram Stories of a time when the couple, both donned in the coolest striped getups, was an epitome of the essence of being cool.

In the photo, Phillippe donned a sleeveless collared top with blue and white stripes that matched Witherspoon's chic vibe in a black-and-white halter dress. He captioned the photo, "We were so young and hot and full of late '90s angst @reesewitherspoon." At press time, the post was still not publicly commented on by Witherspoon, but sources from within have confirmed she has seen it.

From Co-Stars to Spouses

The couple had previously starred together in the 1999 romantic hit drama "Cruel Intentions," alongside Sarah Michelle Gellar and Selma Blair. Their off-screen love story intensified when they tied the knot in 1999 and lasted until 2007.

Together they have two children: Ava Elizabeth, 24, and Deacon Reese, 20. After her divorce, Witherspoon had married Talent Agent Jim Toth in 2011 and has an 11-year-old son, Tennessee James with him. Yet that marriage also came to a halt in March 2023, after almost 12 years, as the actress announced Tuesday.

Phillippe, for his part, is father to ex-girlfriend Alexis Knapp's 12-year-old daughter, Kai. Phillippe and Witherspoon also have a well-documented past of presenting the best-make-up award at the 2002 Academy Awards. When Witherspoon said, "I want to announce it," during the presentation, Phillippe humorously replied, "You make more than I do.

Go ahead." Account this history In an interview on the "HFPA in Conversation podcast" in December 2020, Witherspoon stated that the comment was not prewritten so she froze but she went through and announced the winner. Still on the gender dynamics of Hollywood, Witherspoon commented that women who are highly paid are still judged and criticized.

These honest reflections of Witherspoon go on to show how debates on gender equity in the entertainment industry, as in society at large, remain active and past interactions often figure into explaining current changes in society.
