The popular jelly-roll country music sensation recently gave revelations about his unconventional path to sobriety in a candid conversation with Taste of Country. A heartfelt balladeer with gritty lyrics, he turns to marijuana for longstanding maintenance of his newfound sobriety, passing up the chances to consume harder stuff like xanny, coke, and codeine.

"I get in trouble for this all the time, but my stance on marijuana will always be the same: it has helped me in so many regards, especially with my anxiety," Jelly Roll said. That may have stirred up quite some controversy, but he believed marijuana played a major role in keeping him sober.

"I guess a world without weed, I'm back to drinking codeine and popping Xanax and snorting cocaine. Now with weed, I'll be alright," he explains quite clearly, underlining how drastically his life is different without or with the mere presence of marijuana.

Sobriety Divergence Discussed

The discussion also went on to probe his thoughts on straight sobriety programs—that say a person cannot be using any mind-altering substance at all. "I know I have friends that don't do that.

They're in the program and are totally against any kind of mind-altering anything. I respect that enormously, but that's just not how my sobriety worked out," he shared, indicating a divergence from conventional sobriety paths.

Aside from his sobriety journey, Jelly Roll has also been making headlines for his impressive physical transformation. The "Save Me" star is currently in the challenge, in which he has lost a significant amount of weight. After running his first 5K recently at the Rose Bowl, he now wants to take part in a half-marathon.

"I'm training as hard as you can train. It's an 18-month process.". I want to do a couple more 5Ks first, so the goal is to half-marathon next fall," Jelly Roll told Fox News Digital. His journey began seriously at the start of this year when he accepted Bert Kreischer and Tom Segura's 5K By May challenge.

"I couldn't walk a mile when I started trying to do this back in January. So, the fact that we got three-point-whatever it was done today, I felt really, really good about it," he expressed to Entertainment Tonight. Facts about weight loss have been revealed by Jelly Roll—a well-known musician whose real name is Jason Bradley DeFord. He said he was, at one point in 2015, over 500 pounds and had lost 200 pounds.
