At the glamorous Cannes Film Festival, where stars are typically recognized and celebrated, actor Glen Powell experienced a surprising mishap. Known for his role as the tech-savvy Thorn in the action-packed 2014 film "The Expendables 3," Powell shared a memorable, albeit less-than-glamorous, encounter during the movie's high-profile bash.

In a candid interview with the Hollywood Reporter, Powell recounted the unexpected turn of events at the film's VIP celebration. Despite the festivity being decked with promotional banners, including one of Powell himself, the actor was forcibly removed from the VIP section by a bouncer who failed to recognize him as part of the star-studded cast.

The incident escalated to a physical altercation, leaving Powell with more than just bruised ego. "I got kicked out... and it actually got kind of physical. There was a large bouncer that was convinced that I shouldn’t be in the VIP section, so it kind of turned into a physical altercation where I got hit in the face," Powell explained.

Rising After Cannes

The irony of the situation was not lost on Powell, who humorously noted, "Just because you’ve got a banner doesn’t mean you’re getting in the party." This incident highlights the unpredictable nature of celebrity events, where recognition can sometimes hinge on the awareness of individual staff members, rather than the luminance of one's stardom.

Since that awkward Cannes incident, Powell's career trajectory has steeply ascended. Following his notable role in "Top Gun: Maverick," where he played the charismatic Hangman, Powell has cemented his status in Hollywood.

His recent ventures into romantic comedies, like "Anyone but You" opposite Sydney Sweeney, and forthcoming action projects "Hit Man" and "Twisters," demonstrate his versatile acting prowess and growing popularity. As Powell continues to navigate the complexities of fame and public recognition, his Cannes experience remains a poignant reminder of the often unpredictable nature of celebrity life.

It also underscores the fact that even at the most exclusive parties, being on a banner does not guarantee entry. Powell's story, humorous yet reflective, sheds light on the sometimes absurd realities that accompany the glitz and glamour of Hollywood.
