Prince William is set to play a significant role in the upcoming wedding of a close friend. As reported by The Telegraph, the Prince of Wales, 41, will act as an usher at the high society wedding of Hugh Grosvenor, the Duke of Westminster, to Olivia Henson on June 7.

In the U.K., ushers are close to the groom and are integral to the wedding ceremony. The Church of England notes that ushers are among the first to arrive, helping welcome and seat guests. Their primary role is to ensure guests feel comfortable and welcomed.

This isn't the first time Prince William has taken on this role. In 2004, both he and his brother, Prince Harry, were ushers at the wedding of Hugh's sister, Tamara, to Edward van Cutsem. The Duke of Westminster, 33, has longstanding ties to the royal family, including being a godfather to Prince William and Kate Middleton's eldest son, Prince George.

However, The Telegraph notes that the Princess of Wales, 42, is not expected to attend the nuptials due to her ongoing cancer treatment. The attendance of Prince George, 10, and his siblings, Princess Charlotte, 9, and Prince Louis, 6, remains uncertain.

Both George and Charlotte have previous experience in bridal parties, having served at the weddings of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, and Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank in 2018. Despite being the groom's godfather, King Charles is also not expected to attend the June 7 wedding.

The 75-year-old monarch is undergoing cancer treatment but has recently resumed a fuller schedule of royal duties.

Royal Rift Impact

According to the Sunday Times, the Duke of Westminster chose not to invite Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to his wedding amid ongoing family tensions.

Hugh is reportedly one of Prince Archie's godfathers, though the Duke and Duchess of Suss-x have kept their son’s godparents private. An unnamed friend of Prince William and Prince Harry expressed sadness over the situation, noting Hugh's unique position as a close friend to both princes.

He hoped for reconciliation but acknowledged it was unlikely before the wedding, wishing to avoid any overshadowing of the day for Olivia. Recently, the Duke of Westminster topped The Sunday Times Rich List for under-40s in the U.K.

with a family net worth of $12.8 billion, ranking 15th overall. Hugh inherited his father's title and wealth in 2016, becoming the youngest billionaire in the U.K. According to The Telegraph, the wedding will have a "strictly no-gifts policy." Hugh chairs the Grosvenor Group, an investment and real estate organization that manages rural estates and supports charitable initiatives.

He is also Chair of the Westminster Group, which funds youth outreach programs and supports local communities. During a May 7 visit to Chester Cathedral, the Duke and future Duchess of Westminster reflected on their upcoming nuptials, joking about the nerves they expect to feel on their special day.
