James Brolin is not slowing down anytime soon. The 83-year-old actor, known for his illustrious film and TV career, is excited about what lies ahead. As he wraps up his role as the narrator for the third and final season of Netflix’s "Sweet Tooth," premiering on June 6, Brolin reveals to PEOPLE his enthusiasm for future projects.

“After all these years, I feel like what's really exciting is your next idea,” Brolin says. “Film is like old bread. It's half price the next day. It's what's next that's exciting”. Brolin's career spans over six decades, featuring diverse roles from the medical drama "Marcus Welby, M.D." to the TV sitcom "Life in Pieces." However, "Sweet Tooth" marked a new venture as his first voiceover role.

Despite numerous attempts, it took the intervention of his friends Susan and Robert Downey Jr., executive producers of "Sweet Tooth," to land him the job. “I had done probably 40 sample voice auditions and never got one,” Brolin shares.

“Finally, Susan and Robert said, ‘We want Jim.’ I had lunch with him one day, and within several weeks, they called and said, ‘We want Jim only. Make a deal with him, Warner Brothers. Make a deal with him, Netflix.’”

Brolin's Passion Endures

Reflecting on his decision to take the narrator role, Brolin says, “I thought that everything they seem to put their hands on has a really good chance”.

Brolin’s passion for the film industry remains strong. “I just love being on a set,” he admits, which explains his extensive list of projects over the years. “I call my wife quality and I'm quantity,” he jokes about his wife, Barbra Streisand, who he has been married to for over 25 years.

“She's done 19 movies, and I've done 97 movies alone and 600 hours of television”. Brolin is already back on set, filming his next project, Netflix’s "Ransom Canyon" with Josh Duhamel and Minka Kelly. This contemporary Western, which Brolin describes as the next "Yellowstone" but with “real Texan stuff,” is another exciting venture for the seasoned actor.

“I don't plan on stopping work at any time,” Brolin reiterates. “I tell everybody, ‘You're invited to my 110th birthday. Don't be late.’” James Brolin’s dedication to his craft and his relentless pursuit of new opportunities continue to inspire both fans and fellow actors.

As "Sweet Tooth" Season 3 debuts on June 6 on Netflix, viewers can look forward to more from this enduring Hollywood icon.
