The New York Police Department has identified Clifton Williams, 50, as the suspect accused of randomly attacking actor Steve Buscemi in broad daylight. The incident occurred while Buscemi was walking in midtown Manhattan on Wednesday morning.

According to Fox 5 New York, the NYPD announced on Tuesday evening that Williams was the individual who allegedly punched the 66-year-old actor in the face. Buscemi, known for his roles in "Fargo" and "Boardwalk Empire," sustained bruising, swelling, and bleeding to his left eye.

He was subsequently taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Witnesses told ABC 7 that Buscemi attempted to chase after Williams but was unable to apprehend him. The actor's publicist confirmed the assault to Fox News Digital, expressing Buscemi's gratitude for the support he received.

"Steve Buscemi was assaulted in midtown Manhattan, another victim of a random act of violence in the city. He is okay and appreciates everyone’s well wishes, though he is incredibly saddened by the incident," the publicist stated.

Recent Actor Attacks

The New York Police Department stated the assault on Wednesday, though they did not name Buscemi as the victim. The incident has sparked concerns about safety in the city, particularly as it comes shortly after another attack on a fellow actor.

On March 31, Buscemi's "Boardwalk Empire" co-star Michael Stuhlbarg was assaulted in Manhattan's Central Park. Stuhlbarg was hit in the back of the neck with a rock but managed to chase down his attacker, who was later taken into custody outside the park.

Buscemi, a beloved New York figure and former firefighter, is well-regarded for his contributions to the city, including his efforts at Ground Zero during the 9/11 attacks. The actor's assault highlights the ongoing issue of random violence in New York City, prompting discussions about public safety measures.

The NYPD continues to investigate the incident involving Buscemi and urges anyone with information to come forward. Meanwhile, Buscemi is recovering and remains appreciative of the support from his fans and the community.
