Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, has expressed his disapproval of OpenAI's latest AI model, GPT-4o. The billionaire entrepreneur commented that the demonstration of the new model "made me cringe." Musk has been a vocal critic of OpenAI, a company he co-founded in 2015 but left in 2018.

OpenAI unveiled its new AI model, GPT-4o, on Monday, showcasing its enhanced voice and vision capabilities. The model functions as a digital assistant, allowing users to interact with it both verbally and visually. The demonstration quickly drew comparisons to the 2013 film "Her," where Scarlett Johansson voices an AI that becomes the love interest of Joaquin Phoenix's character.

Musk's discontent was evident as he left critical comments on multiple posts about the new update. Some posts humorously suggested that OpenAI had turned ChatGPT into an AI girlfriend, a notion that Musk seemed to mock.

Musk vs.

The ongoing tension between Musk and OpenAI is well-documented. Since his departure in 2018, Musk has frequently criticized the company’s developments. He has accused OpenAI of infusing ChatGPT with a left-leaning bias and labeled some of its responses as "concerning." Furthermore, Musk has filed a high-profile lawsuit against OpenAI, alleging that it abandoned its founding principles following its multibillion-dollar partnership with Microsoft.

In response to OpenAI's latest release, Musk has also been promoting his rival AI ventures. He recently announced that his AI company, xAI, is preparing a significant upgrade for its chatbot, Grok. This move highlights Musk's ongoing commitment to competing with OpenAI in the rapidly evolving AI industry.

Despite Musk's criticisms, OpenAI remains a significant player in the AI field, continuously advancing its technology. As of now, representatives for both OpenAI and Musk have not responded to requests for comment from Business Insider, made outside normal working hours.

This latest critique from Musk adds another chapter to the complex relationship between the tech mogul and the AI company he once helped to establish. As the AI landscape continues to evolve, the competition and rivalry between these entities are likely to intensify.
