Zayn Malik, the former One Direction star, opened up about his regrets concerning his time with the chart-topping boy band during a candid interview on the Zach Sang Show this week. Malik, who abruptly left the group in 2015, revealed that his biggest regret was not fully appreciating the extraordinary experiences and moments he shared with his bandmates.

Reflecting on his youthful days, Malik shared, "The main thing that I always feel bad about when I look back over my life is not enjoying the band enough. I feel like I just took things too seriously." This introspection comes after years of immense popularity alongside Niall Horan, Liam Payne, Harry Styles, and Louis Tomlinson, which propelled him into global stardom following their formation on the U.K.'

s X-Factor by Simon Cowell.

Fatherhood and Transformation

Malik's departure from One Direction sent shockwaves through their massive fan base and was soon followed by the band's announcement of an indefinite hiatus in 2016.

Speaking about his younger self, Malik admitted, "I didn’t understand the importance of just trying to be happy. I had this, like, teen angst thing going on — chip on my shoulder. I’m like, ‘It’s really cool to be moody all the time....’ It’s not.

Like, you’re just a loser. Let’s be honest, you know what I mean?" Since leaving the band, Malik has undergone significant personal growth, which he attributes to becoming a father to his daughter Khai, whom he shares with ex-partner Gigi Hadid.

"She just makes me happier," he said, describing how fatherhood has filled him with a newfound love and joy. "I have so much love in me that I didn’t have before she was born. She laughs all day. She wants to do the silliest things, and she gains so much excitement from it, you know?" Malik's journey from pop sensation to a reflective father highlights a profound transformation in his outlook on life.

He emphasizes the importance of happiness and being a source of positivity for those around him. His experience underscores a universal message: embracing life's moments with a 'glass half full' perspective can lead to a more fulfilling and joyful existence.
