"Top Gun: Maverick" star Glen Powell is in early talks to board the next feature from J.J. Abrams, who is also getting set to possibly direct the film. While the deal is in early talks, reps are hopeful that a deal can be made on the project.

Powell's career trajectory has been meteoric following his appearances in "Top Gun: Maverick" and "Anyone but You," capturing the attention of prominent filmmakers and major studios alike. While it's unclear when this new project could be slated into Powell’s dense schedule, his upcoming roles continue to showcase his versatility and demand.

He is set to appear in Netflix’s "Hit Man," a project he co-wrote with esteemed director Richard Linklater. Additionally, Powell is involved in the reboot of "The Running Man" under Edgar Wright's direction for Paramount, a revelation made at CinemaCon where he also promoted "Twisters" from Universal, anticipated to be a major summer hit.

Powell's Upcoming Ventures

Moreover, Powell is gearing up for "Chad Powers," a half-hour comedy series on Hulu. The series, involving "Loki" creator Michael Waldron, is based on a character developed by Eli Manning for his ESPN+ docuseries "Eli's Places." Recently, it was announced that Powell would join forces with Anthony Mackie and Academy Award winner Laura Dern in John Lee Hancock’s "Monsanto," a project expected to generate significant buzz at the upcoming Cannes Film Festival market.

On the other hand, J.J. Abrams continues to support emerging talents and innovative projects through his production company, Bad Robot. Notably, he championed Powell by hosting a special screening of "Devotion," a 2022 feature directed by J.D.

Dillard and executive produced by Abrams. Looking ahead, Abrams’ Bad Robot is set to produce "Flowervale Street," a mystery-thriller by writer-director David Robert Mitchell featuring Anne Hathaway and Ewan McGregor, scheduled for a March 2025 release under their Warner Bros.
