Jennifer Lopez attended the Met Gala in 2024 as a co-chair without her husband Ben Affleck, who the night before controversially outbursted at a roast honoring Tom Brady. The Met Gala is an annual star-studded event, masterminded by Vogue editor Anna Wintour, every first Monday in May at The Metropolitan Museum of Art.

This year, a 14-time Met Gala goer, Lopez, beamed in a sheer, gem-encrusted Schiaparelli gown while co-chairing the event for the second time. Meanwhile, the actor was said to have been a no-show because he remained in Los Angeles to continue work on the set of his latest film, "The Accountant 2," a rep told Fox News Digital.

However, his no-show at the Met Gala was heavily overshadowed by the fallout from his appearance at Brady's roast. During the event, streamed live by Netflix, Affleck delivered a nearly six-minute tirade not against Brady, but against the retired quarterback's fans, criticizing them for their harsh online comments.

The actor's remarks quickly stirred controversy, drawing ire from social media users and roast viewers alike. One tweet encapsulated the unexpected nature of his rant: "Ben Affleck going on an unhinged rant about fans on social media at the Tom Brady roast was not on my bingo card." Affleck passionately defended the targeted athletes, stating, "Fans have your back.

You guys out there talking s---, all right, behind your f---ing keyboard, that doesn’t make you a fan. That makes you a b----." His critique extended beyond personal grievances, as he lamented, "I can’t think of a more f---ed up, dysfunctional, horrible working system designed to perpetually make people feel awful." This statement not only highlighted his disdain for the toxic elements of fan culture but also reflected broader frustrations with celebrity and public scrutiny.

Reactions on X, formerly known as Twitter, ranged from empathetic to critical, with one user noting, "Ben Affleck is a walking example that fame and wealth sometimes really - really - don't make you happy." Another quipped about his performance both at the roast and in his film career: "Ben Affleck is killing this roast like he killed the Batman franchise."
