This year’s Met Gala saw global music sensation Bad Bunny, also known as Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, taking the spotlight not just with his unique style but also with a deep nod to his cultural roots and classic fairy tales.

Serving as a co-chair for the first time, Bad Bunny shared this prestigious role with stars like Jennifer Lopez, Chris Hemsworth, Zendaya, and fashion doyenne Anna Wintour. The event held on May 6 marked his third appearance at the fashion's biggest night.

For the 2024 Met Gala, themed “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion,” Bad Bunny chose an ensemble that perfectly mirrored the whimsical and historical essence of the night. His outfit, a navy washed barathea wool smoking jacket over a sleek black satin corset, came from the Maison Margiela Artisanal Collection designed by John Galliano.

This was complemented by an oversized puffy beret adorned with floral details and a pair of stylish leather gloves.

Bouquet of Heritage

The most eye-catching part of his attire was undoubtedly the fabric bouquet he carried.

It featured the Flor de Maga, the national flower of Puerto Rico, signifying a heartfelt tribute to his homeland. The bouquet also included a rose and a flax plant—the latter holds significance in the Sleeping Beauty tale as the plant on which the princess pricked her finger, deviating from the spindle story told in Disney’s adaptation.

The Met Gala’s dress code this year, “The Garden of Time,” inspired by J.G. Ballard’s 1962 short story, invited attendees to explore themes of ephemeral beauty and historical depths. Vogue notes that the rapper’s floral accents were a perfect embodiment of the theme’s essence, capturing the fleeting yet profound nature of beauty.

Bad Bunny's previous appearances at the Gala have always been noteworthy. In 2023, he dazzled the red carpet in a luminous white Jacquemus suit complete with a rosette train, and in 2022, his debut featured an avant-garde hairdo with gold flowers and a striking cargo dress from New York label Luar.
