Prince Harry is facing the fury of a group of military veterans who fear that Duchess Meghan Markle is increasingly taking an active part in the Invictus Games, the international sporting event he set up in 2014 for wounded, injured, and sick military personnel and veterans.

While the active participation of Meghan, such as last year's stirring address, has been favorably received by many, parts of the veteran community have started expressing concern that the event is becoming too "overly royal" and is veering off from its original purpose.

The 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games is in sight, and debate is raging over whether the event should head in a new direction. Almost 2,000 former military participants have withdrawn from the event, saying it has gotten a far cry from what it was initially.

There are even calls for Prince Harry to abdicate from the head of it.

Invictus Games Controversy

In spite of such critical allegations, a mammoth number of supporters continue to make a defense for the royal couple. Also eager to have their say were his followers on social media, including X, formerly Twitter, One, for instance wrote: 'Prince Harry rocks at the Invictus Games!

These games are not about sports. They are a powerful reminder of the strength and resilience of wounded warriors. Let's cheer them on!' Many more took the opportunity of the milestone birthday to praise Harry's continued commitment in the wake of his rousing launch speech in 2014.

The service is set to take place at St Paul's Cathedral on May 8th and will be attended by the then Prince Harry, and many others, including actor Damian Lewis, and members of the global Invictus community. While Meghan is not expected to attend the event at St Paul's Cathedral, she will be stepping out for an engagement shortly afterwards alongside Prince Harry in Nigeria, visiting programmes in partnership with the Invictus Games.

This is a decade full of powerful existence of the Invictus Games. It points out the discussion in regard to the balance of celebrity influence and the real mission of sports support for veterans. As that discussion ensues, the world community will watch how the Games may change but still be relevant to the cause of veterans around the world.
