A representative for the estate of great footballer O.J. Simpson told People magazine on Friday that he died on April 10 due to prostate cancer. This happens one year after the announcement of the cancer diagnosis back in May 2023, when Simpson announced this himself.

He had openly shared his health struggles on social media but had not disclosed the specific condition he was fighting. O.J. Simpson's death was initially announced on April 11 by his family through X, the platform formerly known as Twitter.

The family's statement at the time did not specify the type of cancer, but emphasized their loss: "On April 10th, our father, Orenthal James Simpson, succumbed to his battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his children and grandchildren.

During this time of transition, his family asks that you please respect their wishes for privacy and grace."

Simpson's Complex Legacy

LaVergne, who had represented Simpson since 2009, reflected on his client's complex legacy.

Simpson's life journey included remarkable achievements in sports and entertainment, yet was overshadowed by his infamous legal battles. He became not only a Hall of Fame football star but also a celebrity as an actor, and finally, in the "Trial of the Century".

Though acquitted in the criminal murder trial of his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ronald Goldman, the case is still open and actually unresolved to this day. After Simpson died, LaVergne promised not to go on with any obfuscation in matters regarding the case and the ones about the Goldman family.

The Goldmans were awarded millions in a 1998 civil judgment, which Fred Goldman claimed in 2022 had yet to be paid. According to him, the amount increases by 10 percent annually. LaVergne stated, "I will ensure that any claims made by the Goldmans to retrieve what they were awarded will be honored by the estate." This assertion by the executor indicates an intention to resolve these longstanding financial disputes as the families of both Brown Simpson and Goldman continue to seek closure.

As the community and fans reflect on Simpson's storied life and tumultuous personal struggles, his family's request for privacy underscores the profound impact of his passing.
