Prince Harry, recently declared a US resident, expressed profound distress and fury after being asked to vacate Frogmore Cottage, a royal residence bestowed upon him and Meghan as a wedding gift from the late Queen Elizabeth II.

The eviction from this cherished home not only symbolizes a severing of physical ties but marks a deeper familial rift, reflecting the ongoing tensions within the British royal family. According to royal expert Tom Quinn, the request for Harry to surrender the keys to Frogmore Cottage, detailed in his memoir "Spare," felt like a "cruel rejection" by his father, King Charles.

The decision was disclosed amidst revelations of Harry's official change of residency to the United States, coinciding with the day he left the Windsor estate. Quinn, who has penned several books on the royals, including "Kensington Palace: An Intimate Memoir from Queen Mary to Meghan Markle," conveyed to the Mirror that Harry was "absolutely furious and in tears" over the eviction.

He perceived it as a vindictive move by his father, King Charles, especially given the lack of entitlement to any form of security paid by the British taxpayer or access to a luxurious UK home post his departure as a working royal.

Echoes of Loss: Frogmore

The eviction is seen as a painful echo of the conflicts that marred his childhood, particularly the tumultuous divorce of his parents, Charles and Diana. The loss of Frogmore Cottage is not just about a residence but the symbolic security and acceptance it represents.

Frogmore Cottage holds sentimental value for Harry and Meghan. It is the home where they welcomed their first child, Archie, in 2019 and celebrated their daughter Lilibet’s first birthday. In "Spare," Harry recounts the joy and attachment they felt towards the residence, from morning walks in the gardens to interactions with the Queen's gardeners.

The departure from Frogmore and the subsequent loss of UK-based police security has been a source of ongoing dispute for Harry. As a high-profile individual and former soldier, he argues that his safety in the UK is compromised without the protection he once had as a member of the royal family.
